Post Vacay Vibes

10 days goes by fast when you don't have a schedule... also when you're having fun.  It has been a while since I've been on a family trip like that, and this time we had a new generation to make memories with.  My nephews and niece were a joy to be with, and a great reminder for me to have more play in my life.  From water slides, swimming in the ocean, playing cards, and taking the not-so-lazy river (more on that in a bit), my time was filled with a lot of play.  Sure I got some time to relax with my partner as well.  Not having to worry about cooking food, cleaning, or having a schedule is relaxing of itself.  The lazy river was supposed to be relaxing, but we spent more time chasing each other around and trying to knock each other off the tubes than just laying back and letting the current take us.  It was good to get away and remember that you don't always have to take life so serious all the time.

Now that I'm back, my partner and I are trying to find ways we can add some of those elements back into our lives here.  We're both responsible adults, and we joke we are too responsible at times.  Filling our schedules with chores around the house, food prep, workouts, and of course our jobs.  We forget that sometimes it is okay to leave things a day or two.  Not everything has to be done right away.  Play and fun are integral parts of a healthy life, and we are looking for ways to do less while benefiting more.

While I did manage to get a few form reps here and there throughout my vacation (Katana form I obviously had to just go through the motions, little hard to travel with a live blade), I spent my time relaxing and connecting with my family.  It is not often enough that I take the time to sit and connect, I'm usually on the go.  Being able to sit down and have meals with them was fun, not often that I get to do that, even at home.  Little things like that make a big difference in how we connect.  By far the biggest change being away, was way less time on my phone.  No network, no problem.  I ended up only checking my phone a handful of times, and did my best to stay away from work emails, though I did have a couple of things that did in-fact need my urgent attention.  Otherwise work was the furthest thing from my mind.

It was a nice little reset.  Something I desperately needed.  Although I'll miss having my meals cooked for me, and not having to clean, I am happy to be back home and looking forward to getting back into my routine.  I'm ready to tackle the world again, hopefully in a less urgent manner.
