Importance of footwork and lower body stability

SO, I watched the Jake Paul- Mike Tyson fight last night.  Definitely more spectacle and hype than anything, having a 27 year old content creator going up against a 58 year old retired professional boxer.  Now, would I still want to get in the ring with Mike Tyson?  Probably not.  I'm pretty sure he still hits like a freight train, and he is looking fit for his age.

As far as the fight goes, what I noticed most was the footwork, especially that of the 58 year old Tyson.  He had a knee sleeve on his right knee, and I could tell by watching him that he didn't have a lot of strength nor stability on his legs.  There were moments were he was quite springy, but for the most part it looked like he struggle with balance and grounding.  His overall footwork was pretty slow, and he'd stumble and lose his balance when taking a hit.  He didn't end up throwing a lot of punches either, though he was quite agile when it came to bobbing and weaving.

This just made me think about my eye for detail and my Kung Fu.  The importance of the lower body and footwork for our stability and generation of power.  Although a seasoned professional, age had caught up to Tyson and you could tell that he didn't have a solid foundation.  All that upper body power was useless.
