Transitions

Yesterday was a long travel day for me.  We left the house at 7:40 am and didn’t arrive at our destination in London, ON until after 8pm (6pm AB) time.  Suffice to say that not a lot of training got done yesterday.

What I have been working on is my transitions in my forms.  There’s a few places in particular I’ve been working on, but as a whole I’ve been really trying to feel where the pressure is in my feet.  Am I truly grounded. Or does it just look or falsely feel that way?  I’ve been using the Bagua stepping (side note, Ba is eight, in acupuncture we have lots like ba feng or eight points for wind), and our lesson from our last second degree brown class to work on my footwork and transitions more.

Aside from that, working with the white belts on Lai Gar 1 last Monday was a a great opportunity to apply both my eye for detail and my own knowledge.  Funny enough, most of what I worked on was transitions.  Imagine that.  I noticed right off the bat, that panther fist with the cat stance, they all were already sitting in the cat before throwing the strike, so they were missing out on the power transfer because they weren’t connected.  I saw a lot of great improvement in how they were moving by then end and that made me really happy.
